WHO discovered the first Dinosaur fossil?

What inspired me to make this video was actually when I was playing Red Dead Redemption 2 when I came across a side quest given by a paleontologist uncovering a dinosaur bone. This paleontologist tasks you with finding several other bones to help her in her research, Arthur Morgan, the games protagonist, doesn’t really understand what a dinosaur is and questions if they are real, thinking of them more as ‘big lizards.’ Now that got me thinking, how exactly were dinosaurs first discovered? What did the people who found them think they were? And how did the general public react to the discovery?

Mary Anning's story is an amazing one. Many years ago I visited Lyme Regis to see her workshop, and also her collection in London. However, you are incorrect that she was the first to discover dinosaurs. She discovered icthyosaur and pleisosaurs which by definition were sea reptiles. Dinosaurs are by definition land animals. She also was not the first to discover extinct ancient sea reptiles. Her discoveries were in the 1810's and later. In 1770 a mosasaur skeleton (an ancient prehistoric sea reptile) was dug out of a mine in the Netherlands, which created quite a storm in scientific world. So much so that Napolean invaded the Netherlands to steal it.

No surprise they found a perfectly preserved Fagosaur on the outskirts of San Francisco. Proving that area has always been a homosexual breeding ground. Even the dinosaurs were gay.
