Success!! I found out how to do it, thanks to some suggestions on here. I tested it on my single player map and my server, both work. There are 2 ways to do it. Method #1: Create your waterproof base below "sea level" near the lake and then dig a channel over to the lake, essentially flooding the area around your base. Method #2: Dig below the bottom of the lake and make your base down there. Both methods seem to bypass the problem of "if there's water in this square when the game starts, there's always water in this square."

Since water can flow into and share spaces with blocks there probably isnt a way anymore. You could try digging a big pit next to a lake, build a base. Then break the wall between the lake and your pit and see if the water still flows through the blocks. I suspect it will.

Thank you for this test. When I am able to play this I was really considering this type of base or just a house to chill at so this saves me a tremendous amount of time because I would have been extremely frustrated and me being stubborn would have kept working and a horde would have wasted me.

I’m curious if blocks like plates or sheets would displace the water? Possibly stacking them and seeing the water flows through the space between them? Or maybe half blocks? I suppose an easy way to see would be just to place a plate or sheet in the water troughs you’ve created and see what happens with the water.

As a part-time wanna be game designer myself, it looks like they used a special method of creating water. It's pretty common when you make 'realistic' water. It means that there are only certain collisions types on the water, not ALL collision types. And if they set all the building blocks to 'let water through' collision type...then we're pretty much outta luck. IMHO it wouldn't suprise me if the FPs did this to thwart underwater bases entirely because I've seen this work properly in other games and my design efforts. It seems to be their MO to block any creative useful ideas we have.

Thanks Capp! Nice to know that underwater bases might be unachievable. I found a weird property of water, in that I created a pit and then proceeded to fill it with water, and then have the zombies drop into the water, figuring that the zombies would not go into a destroy all mode to save my stability of my base. It also slows the zombies down to allow for more crowd control. What I found is the zombies are still trying to destroy my pit walls. I am also >11 blocks distance from the zombies when they drop in, assuming to not trigger the destroy all. The drop height is 10 with 3 blocks of water. would have thought it would be a nice swimming pool dive, unless the water is to shallow.

As I remember, my motivation to build an underwater base several years ago was the fact that zombies can not run underwater. Has that changed? Back then, of course, I could just build a large cube with building frames, take out the inner part and upgrade the shell into concrete, installing some bar windows to shoot through (the water didn't leak inside through them). So the zombies would arrive more slowly and evenly, and I would have plenty of time to aim and shoot at them. Perhaps, an underwater base with that "air pocket" could still be used for that purpose? Only as a stronghold for the horde nights?

Surprised you only experimented with full blocks. Do partial blocks just not block water at all? I'd think using plates would "occupy" the space well enough to keep water out like we were able to do in Minecraft before the water got updated there to be incredibly difficult to deal with.

Excellent work, Cap00 and kudos to you for testing it out but honestly, I'm not surprised. I mean, the water is set up in such a way that it forces its way through solid walls to fill an open space in the middle of a solid block of steel reinforced concrete. No surprise there. (I'll bet the people who have constructed bridges over rivers using caissons are glad TUFP weren't in charge...) Given the track record of TUFP, why would they give you any way to build a base that would actually give you an advantage or allow you to build it the way you want? They slowly and surely whittle away at any and everything that gives you an advantage and forces you to play THEIR way or NO way.

Cool test! Thank you for your efforts. This is great info! 👍

Great effort Capp. Only thing I can think of is to build a 3x3, etc. filled in, exit the game, then restart to see if it resets the the center blocks to something other than water when it initializes again. Probably won't work since water seems to pass through block....

Damn, and I wanted to build an underwater bowling alley! 😅

I wondered if their water “fix” wouldn’t break something else. In this case, physics. But I absolutely love that Sylvia just HAD to make an appearance! Too funny!

Thanks for all your effort. Love this kind of video ❤

I was messing around with it a little bit. Try using topsoil blocks and make sure the walls between you and the water are at least 2 to 3 blocks thick. I built a solid topsoil structure under a lake and then removed the middle. The problem came when I would hollow it out where the topsoil walls were 2 blocks thick, so to be on the safe side I say keep them at least 3 blocks thick between the inside and the water.

Thorough and awesome testing on this one Cap00!!

You could probably dig out a wide deep lake bed adjacent to an existing lake and build a base there. Once you've finished it you could dig a trench from the lake to your empty lake bed and let it fill up. It would take a while but it may work

What about using letters on the wall. Something that takes virtually no space like the period then put down your tables on the other wall. It doesn’t give you much room but it seems like you could get a 2 block wide corridor as tall or long as you want

I had a functional horde ready underwater base. Had. But when I logged back in it refilled with water again. I did find out if you dig out a massive amount surrounding bedrock that the water does spread out, lowering water level in areas and I was able to build a 15x15 base.

I was really bummed after making a huge base above the water with an entrance down to bed rock, only to find out water cannot be removed now. Thanks for the video. I hope they patch this soon!
