Cheaper than a 250F, faster than a modded 250F, smoother and more powerful than ever before and all that was changed was the air box. Absolutely insane, imagine if this bike had as much development as 4 strokes. Can’t wait to see what people think about the all new 2022 YZ125

Yamaha was genius to keep making the YZ250 when everyone else stopped... except KTM. No need to change what works. 👍

I think that the 4 strokes are over rated. That fact that 2 strokes have been neglected for years is a detriment. I sure hope they start to make a comeback. They really deserve it.

The ancient AMA rule that a four stroke could have double the CC has been taken advantage of by technology at a huge price increase.

I had a 2007 yz250 so pretty much the same thing minus the plastics and air box. Such a rad bike. I love 4 strokes but I just can’t get over how much simpler a 2 strokes are. And just easier and cheaper to deal with long term.

Nice video! Worth noticing that Nicholas Lapucci just won the European MX championship on a 250 2s (Fantic bike) against all 4s!💪🏻

Yes I am getting one around February! Switching from a crf250r. I've never personally owned a smoker so I'm super stoked!

I'm an older off road guy that plays at the track some. I love my YZ250X. I think the only bike I would upgrade to would be a new 250X if Yamaha throws the upgrades at it next year, although they will need to find a way to put a bigger tank on it as I understand that the new bike has a smaller tank than the 2021s and older. Great review, thanks!

Just bought a 2022 250x and it’s the best bike I’ve ever had. It’s so much fun to ride and easy to work on

If Yamaha made a dedicated WR250X with solid updates that would be so awesome. Something to compete with the KTMs.

I love my 2018 yz250, I ride enduro on it. Have over 220 hours on the stock piston and sparkplug.
Before anyone buys a 4 stroke, thing to consider is repair costs.
Look into the price of a new head complete with valves n seals and gaskets set cylinder, piston kit, and timing chain, then price the comparable 2 stroke rebuild. Then be honest with urself and how much extra money you have for a rebuild ever 60 hours on the 4 stroke or 100 hours on the 250 2 stroke, 60 on a 125 2 stroke. Enduro riding double the rebuild time because your not tapped into the rev limiter all day like a mx track riden bike. In 41 years of dirtbikes, I've realized 2 stroke is best for my family. We just have to many bikes to afford 4 stroke race bikes. Thats the bottom line.

I wish the AMA would drop the 450 class and run a mixed 2502t/3504t class. It would fix supercross!

Great video Jay! That was a really insightful comparison between the two bikes. Thanks for all of the info!

2 stroke if you want a good fun bike, 4 stroke if you like men

2 strokes are great, but don't hold your breath for a comeback, or huge R&D from Yamaha. I'm glad the YZ125 got a makeover and the 250 got some updates, but the writing on the wall seems obvious to me. I wouldn't be surprised to see the end of Yamaha's 2 stroke lineup by the late 2020's TBH. They're pretty much impossible to green sticker, which means you won't even be able to ride one on public land in California, and I'd bet other states are going to start becoming more strict with offroad emissions as well. Sucks man. 2 strokes will always have a special place in my heart. My first bike was a YZ85, so many fond memories on that bike.

One thing to remember if you find a 250 2 stroke hard to ride then you shouldn't be riding at all

Have you guys tested the AJP bikes? I read somewhere that Jotagas is building a 300cc enduro bike.

What was the horsepower for the 2 stroke?

250F's are allowed in the 125 class. 450F's are allowed in the 250 class.
Plus, 2 Strokes are just flat out a more fun bike to ride.
