• 250 g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
• 30 g (2 ½ tbsp) sugar
• 1 pinch of salt
• 1 tsp instant yeast
• 125 ml (½ cup) lukewarm milk
• 40 g (3 tbsp) softened butter
• 1 egg (medium)
For the filling:
• 100 g (4–5 tbsp) blueberry preserves
Additionally:
• 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
• A little milk (for the egg wash)

1. Sift the flour into a bowl. Make a well in the center and add the yeast, 1 tsp sugar, and 2–3 tbsp lukewarm milk.
2. Stir gently and let sit for 10 minutes until foamy. Then, add the remaining milk, sugar, salt, egg, and butter. Knead into a smooth, elastic dough that pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
3. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
4. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle (about 25 x 30 cm / 10 x 12 inches).
5. Spread the blueberry preserves evenly, leaving a 1 cm (½ inch) border. Roll the dough tightly from the long side.
6. Then roll it up again from one end to create a large swirl.
7. Place the twisted braid into a greased or parchment-lined 10 x 20 cm (4 x 8 inch) loaf pan.
8. Cover and let the braid rise again for 30 minutes in a warm place. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Mix the egg yolk with a little milk and brush the top of the braid.
9. Bake on the middle rack for about 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the pan and let cool on a wire rack.
