Taking Apart a Bach Sequence 🎵

I'm undoing m. 18-20 from Prelude 5 in D-major (BWV 850) from Book 1 of The Well-Tempered Clavier (1722) by J.S. Bach. What we have here is a sequence, based on a descending circle of fifths bassline.🎵

You actually give insight to the very basics of how Bach and ALL his contemporaries were trained: two part singing on a given cantus firmus, mostly long notes with going the scale up and down (ut-re-mi-fa-sol-la, la-sol-fa-mi-re-ut). This is the first stage of composing sequences!

Hi Penny! May I suggest you look at the sequence in mm. 5-6 in his prelude in F major from WTC bk 1? The whole prelude is right in line with all your videos, but that sequence has stuck with me as one of my favorite simple yet brilliant harmonic parts! The C# to Bb minor modulation is just ❤❤❤❤
