The CST-100 spacecraft in development by Boeing Space Exploration of Houston, Texas, will -advance beyond the design phase and be put into manufacturing for flight tests and eventual operational missions to the International Space Station. NASA selected the company's crew transportation system and spacecraft for a contract in the final phase of certification for privately built and operated integrated systems to carry astronauts from American soil to the orbiting laboratory.

I like Boeing. So, don't get me wrong when I say, why is Boeing getting paid MORE for the same service? SpaceX only gets 62% as much money? This is the same way it is with the current cargo contracts. If you hail a cab and find out he's running his cab more efficiently than the other cab drivers, do you then give him 62% of the fare?

I would have liked to have seen DC instead of CST-100 in the final selection. I guess those two shuttle disasters & the subsequent DC landing gear failure played a small part in the selection. Also, DC's heat shield would be fully exposed to micro meteoroid impacts for the 6 months attached to ISS. Possible damaging it & causing another Columbia like disaster.

Has yet to do one test flight and gets nearly double the budget as SpaceX & its how many successful dragon missions?.... Couldn't agree with RyeOnHam more

Interesting that Boeing gets $4.2 billion and SpaceX gets $2.6 billion, even though SpaceX is further along, will provide cheaper launches, and is a much more challenging (i.e. innovative) design. I feel like the funding should be more balanced between the two competitors. Then again, SpaceX would probably be fine without NASA funding (at this point). What would Boeing (space) be today without NASA's never ending, cost-plus, funding teat to suck on?
