Boeing's CST-100: America Will Continue the Dream

Boeing’s Crew Space Transportation (CST)-100 is being developed as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, which aims to resume U.S.-based flights to space by 2017 . The CST-100 will transport up to seven passengers or a mix of crew and cargo to the International Space Station (ISS) and other low-Earth orbit destinations. Under the Commercial Crew Transportation (CCtCap) phase of the program, Boeing will build three CST-100s at the company’s Commercial Crew Processing Facility at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The spacecraft will undergo a pad-abort test in 2016, an uncrewed flight in early 2017, leading up to the first crewed flight to the ISS in mid-2017.

Could you explain in a new vide the differences or advantages the CST-100 has in comparison with others?

It is now May 11, 2016. May we request an update on CST-100 please?

Despite the Dragon V2 being practically better in most ways (cost, reusability, versatility), I can imagine why NASA awarded Boeing more money. Excluding conspiracies involving lobbyists and power plays, it may have been that NASA deems SpaceX's proposals as risky and unlikely. CST-100 is very similar to Orion, which NASA made themselves, so for obvious reasons they may be inclined to award more money to something more along their line of thought. Not to mention Boeing has been speedier in completing the CCD/CCiCap Milestones so far, which may indicate greater reliability. I am a full supporter of SpaceX, but looking at the CCD phases, Boeing simply scored higher. The deal is that while SpaceX is going above and beyond what NASA is asking for, they are taking more time and risk to do so. At the same time Boeing is doing basically the bare minimum, but quickly and with low risk. In the long term SpaceX will likely have the better capsule, but in terms of NASA's contract awards, I think I can see why they gave Boeing less money. Now Sierra Nevada? Yeah I have no idea about them...

excuse me if I'm ignorant, but what is the difference between the CST-100 and the orion capsule?

What I like more about SpaceX, is that their videos are less like a commercial and more like a fact video. The Dragon v2 video is only about what it does in space, this has a lot of stuff which doesn't have anything to do with the CST-100.

I love Boeing!! They have remained in my head since childhood as pioneers of the industry. But guys, there is always room for improvements. But hey, right?

Going back to basics. Old method is cheaper and safer. Well done Boeing.

Unrelated to the CST itself... Has anyone seen the other ad for this capsule that plays before some YouTube videos? It's short and fades through a few phrases like "space vacationing."

I'm looking to see if the music in that ad is actually a song that I can find and play.

Someone want to explain this to me? The Lockheed Martin Orion has actually flown a high orbit test flight. So why is Boing developing a capsule? Both Orion and Dragon have actually flown in space. Why are they developing another capsule when there are already two working prototype vehicles?

Not quite as dramatic as the Shuttle but at least it's safer and more efficient.
