I do 10-12 not counting the warmup sets. Back is a big and strong muscle it needs volume AND intensity.

Even Ronnie Colman answered when asked “is this dude natural?” He replied….The only thing natural on him is his hat”

I began my bulk this year May 6 weighing in at 202lbs @ 15% fat. I am now 248.5lbs @ 18% fat. For my back/pull workouts? 4 compound implements, 6-8 sets per implement. That’s a total of roughly 32 sets.

…..I’m inclined to believe volume = size.

Vince Gironda had a awesome Leg, Torso, Arms split where he had one exercise per muscle at 10 sets and honestly if you're training right that's all you need.

Ex:
Legs-
Quads- Hack Squats
Hamstrings- Leg Curls
Calves- Calf Raise

Torso-
Chest- Incline Press
Back- Pulldown
Delts- Side Raise

Arms-
Triceps- Overhead Pushdown
Biceps- Curls

I do 12 sets on back day for my back and 8 sets on upper body day. 20 sets is perfect for me. Enough volume and I go to failure on every last set of the exercise. Back is my strongest body part now. I also don't do anything fancy, just pullups and rows. Keep it simple and gains will eventually roll in.

Thats a fact, i use to do 4-5 exercises 3-4 sets per muscle. Did i grow? Yea but now in my early 30s i'm doing 3-4 exercises with a heavy 3-4 sets focusing more on quality, contraction and rest leading to me putting on muscle easily

I like this dude but cannot give advise while taking gear to a person who is all natural...best advise is to become your own expert thru trial and error 💯

I got decent back and legs, I do it all based on how I'm feeling. Typically rotate between deads and legs within 1.5-2 weeks.

More studies are actually showing that more volume = more growth if you’re actually working to within 1-2 reps or failure

On my main muscle I’m hitting about 9 sets in a single exercise for whatever my focus is. Secondary muscles for the day get hit for about 4-6 and tertiary muscles get about 3 typically.

That’s all in a single workout. All sets are hypertrophy sets so… anywhere from 3-0 reps in reserve depending on where I am in my cycle. For a week you end up hitting the focus muscles for that training cycle pretty damn hard. Works well for me.

I don’t know people can train like that and hit something like 20 sets. What the hell are you doing? If you’re on drugs that’s absolutely possible but if you’re going to failure or near failure on every set… I have no clue how you’re hitting a muscle group more than 12 times in a day.

100% agree! I noticed a massive difference when I started to do less reps. I stay between 6-10 reps. I’m even more sore now, and the strength is insane! As a female I’m pushing 155lbs on a flat bench! 🤙

beginners and people who don’t know how to train hard can do better with 10-20 sets. You learn intensity as you grow older.not everyone is taking 500 mg of caffeine and injecting their butt 3x a week

Speaking as a life long lifter I agree with sam. I do 5 sets for back and I’m completely spent. You’re likely lacking intensity if you’re doing 12 sets. No hate everyone’s different. But I mean if you’re really focusing on slow controlled reps with a great squeeze and mind muscle connection. I dunno how you’re doing 12 sets. Even when I was kid and was doing gear I still couldn’t get huge volume in. I recovered a lot faster and my strength was off the charts. But I always just kept making things more intense. Slower, deeper stretch longer squeezes etc. always seemed to work best for me cheers guys

For me its
Chest, back and leg 8-12 sets
Shoulder, bicep, tricep 4-6 sets
Abs 3-5sets
Forearms 3sets

I would even say just 4 to 6 sets per exercise that way you know you still have energy left to perform all the other movements for that training session. It’s not about high volume of sets it’s more about pump and feeling as well as all the other stuff like stretching meals and rest that will make you body develop the way you want overtime. Stay consistent.

yeah i can 100% say this is fax, i used to do so many different variants of workouts for the same muscle groups and saw growth, but not a lot. now i’ve started to only do 2-3 different workouts per muscle/muscle group but push it really fucking hard, and the level of growth is insane. like i notice myself growing by the week. tbf i also sleep & eat a lot better but it all has it’s place. you also save like he said loads of energy but also time in the gym. i used to train for about two hours, now i’m done after 45 mins. and i’m bigger than i ever was.
