Solo Fall Camping in Heavy Rain | Vancouver Island

Another weekend solo hiking deep into the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Only this time I found myself in the temperate rainforest of Vancouver Island. Carrying 30 lbs into the backcountry, my dog and I attempt to reach an alpine lake and setup camp in the rain.

My dog and I are based in British Columbia, Canada and spend the weekends adventuring, exploring mountains, camping, paddling, fishing, riding motorcycles. Thanks for being here :).

Thank you for supporting mine and Kyro's adventures. We love making videos and Patreon will help us put more time and effort into giving back to you.

Your views and comments on YouTube also mean the world. See you next week.

You are a gift to film-making, absolutely not a "horrible filmaker". Yay for Madison old-school vlog, the drone stuff is slick, but we love your down to earth, ness. No one else makes such a stunning protagonist in so many lush and spectacular settings. The past year of not even getting out to trail hike or bike nor SUP, your energy to do so, has truely been my greenery time. Though you could call it screen time, for me personally I consider it quality time. You have been a groundbreaker in combined old school hiking, and most modern conveying of the experience. Thanks always and forever, also for knowing when to turn around. Not a walk of shame, an expert decision maker at staying safe within boundries, even though you are a girl that knows no bounds! Thanks for being the tough energetically charged one, for those of us doing the work-weed-sleep routine, you are admired as an artist's artist, creating art no one else ever has. Please definitely don't admonish your creativity and inspiration!

Landslide lake is definitely one of my favourite hikes, it is soo nice up there in the summer, and the bugs aren't even bad.

I've lived on the Island my whole life, it's a great place to get out in nature. Nice to see you making smart choices while out there solo.

I would have turned around too. Wet slippery rocks in the dark are dicey. Amazing scenery. Nice hike.😄🥰❤
Glad you didn't run into any vicious dogs off leash. Those people are whackos.

Landslide Lake on the Elk River Trail in Strathcona Provincial Park on Vancouver Island. You will need to give your friend Forestry Forest a call to tackle the stunning Mount Colonel Foster, a more challenging mountain if you are a beginner. Strathcona is a cool park, since you can do some pretty awesome traverses that most people don’t do, as they involve route finding and some logistical challenges. For example, you can hike Bedwell Lakes up to Cream Lake, then up and over Mount Septimus down to Love Lake, Della Falls and down and out via Great Central Lake (either get picked up by a water taxi, or if you are particularly adventurous, have them drop of your canoe or kayak of choice so you can paddle back yourself). There are other amazing traverses that I’ve heard about from locals who live in Campbell River also (some that start at the Buttle Lake side and exist via the Forbidden Plateau side). I would also recommend a multiday adventure to get to and climb the Golden Hinde, Vancouver Island’s highest peak (Forest would love that one). Nice thing about Strathcona Provincial Park is that you don’t need reservations for most backcountry camping.

Another adventure you might be interested in on the island are the Tachu, Nootka, and Hesquiat trail trio… just need to arrange logistics in terms of how to get from one trail to the other via either sea plane or boat taxis to do all three in a row, one after the other. These would be tackled from Gold River (or Tahsis if you are looking to start Tachu via boat and transfer over to Nootka with a boat taxi vs float plane). For someone like yourself, I would highly recommend an adventure like this!

Still waiting for you to tackle the GDT… the most legendary and beautiful trail in our backyard, in my opinion. Just be careful, someone’s dog died on it last year, from exhaustion I presume. And the mighty Assiniboine… nothing beats the tops of Mountains. I’ve done a ton of hiking, but my heart will always be in the mountains, and climbing them. Nothing better than that in life, period.

Stay safe! Love your content, as always! Keep pushing your limits!
