We called this the “ sunset ac” in Taiwan, because it only work when the sun set. One tip, before you use the machine. Crank your car ac up to cool down the van, so the machine doesn’t have to crank so hard to cool down the temperature in the van, once its all nice and cool, use the machine to “maintain” the temperature in your van. You will save more battery and it work better.

A few things that will affect your temperature:

1a) The amount of stuff you have. Water holds heat about 1000x better than air, and solid matter holds heat about 1000x better than water.

Heating up solid matter takes a long time but once it's heated up it holds the heat and radiates it over a long period of time (this is the reason for why it generally takes a long time to heat up a cold house but once heated up it takes little effort to actually keep it warm). The more stuff you have, the hotter your van is gonna get, and the harder it's gonna be to cool down.

1b) Circulate the air around the van with a big fan. Air flowing over the surface of solid matter cools it down faster since flowing air takes heat with it, which decreases heat radiation. Because, as mentioned above, air holds heat about 1000x worse than solid matter, the space will cool down faster if the heat is transferred from solid matter to the air.

2) A good rule of thumb is to over-insulate your van. Insulate it for winter use and then some. The reason for this is that insulation works both ways. It not only holds temperatures in but it also keeps temperatures out. With over-the-top insulation, your van is gonna be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. This way your AC you won't be constantly battling the heat from the sun. It's gonna be much harder to cool the van if the heat from the outside has an easy time getting inside.

3) Try splitting the airflow pipe. If you split the airflow pipe you can cool both the AC compartment and the rest of your van. Lower ambient temperature for the AC means colder air.

4) If your van has car AC installed, use this in conjunction with your portable unit until it's sufficiently cool and your portable AC can take over.

I recently purchased a Zero Breeze for my minivan I am currently living in and absolutely love it, again it does not cool the entire area but definitely helps me in central California stay cool especially in the dry hot summer weather.

Altitude is your friend!
A friend of mine lives full time in his RV
April he leaves southern Az for Flagstaff....winter comes he returns.
No need for A/C.

Ecoflow Wave AC is probably the best portable option but it draws 300 - 500 watts and its pricey too.

How so many simple things can be a big deal when you’re living in a van. My goodness, you’re in love with a dryer vent hose 😂
I think your subscribe bits are the most creative on YouTube 👍

I put tower ac bought off friend. On cheap. Cleaned it up. Ran vent through floor. Little AC won't cool whole van. I'll be plugged in fourth July week.

Our heat pump went out Saturday. We live in Southern Arizona. It has been a tough week my sympathies are with you.

I like the icy breeze . I'll keep up with the ice and stay cool. I use a combination of the big blocks and bagged ice. You don't have to worry about it breaking down either. I also use weather tech sunshades for all my windows. Yes they cost more, but you get what you pay for.

Puppy cooling gel pads . You can lie on them. If it doesnt fit in your fridge, you can buy a separate cooler, fill it with ice and stuck the cooling pad in it. You also have ice for your drinks :)

I'm just using two 12 volt fans. It's about 20-25 cooler here in West Virginia, in my area during the day. Down in the mid to upper 60's at night. (-: this is my cool spot (-:

Dont go North, go UP. Camp above 7000' and you'll be cool all summer. The higher you go the cooler it gets. Need a good sleeping bag above 9000' sometimes in the summer.

Thanks for the honest review. I do find the 2300BTUs of the Mark 2 a bit in the weak side. It shoud have at least more than 3000BTUs to properly cool down a room or a tent.

Get a dehumidifier as well, removing the moisture in the air will do wonders 😊
