As a North Carolinian, I appreciate you did a video on this. Many seem to forget how important the Carolinas are to American history especially even before the United States was founded.

I live in Western North Carolina and it’s absolutely beautiful here. Even after the flood. We are rebuilding and we will be back better than before.

Nice! I enjoyed this.
I was raised in N.Y. but relocated to N.C. 32 years ago.
That question as to why there are two Carolinas had been on my mind.
I love history so I really enjoyed this!

I was born in NC. Lived most of my life in SC. Now I reside in NC. Both states have a weather anomaly that most other states do not (generally speaking). They both have four full seasons. Thanks for this video. I knew part of our history. Although i just learned some more. Thank you again.

Tennessee was once part of North Carolina and Kentucky was part of Virginia. North Carolina had to sell Tennessee to pay of War debts and the reason Tennessee is so long is that it goes from the Appalachian mountains to the Mississippi river.

Left out of this video were the problems of piracy along the N.C. coastline in the early 1700's. It added into the perception of lawlessness and ineffective administration. Piracy was so bad that the Virginia governor ordered his own expeditions there to apprehend pirates, and Virginia was supportive of the idea that North Carolina needed to be separated so that it could be better administered.

The separation was probably the best thing for both states. It allowed each state to focus on its strengths and develop in its own way. I really enjoyed the video, especially the graphics.

The colonial capitals of the Carolinas were New Bern NC and Charleston SC. When their land expands, South Carolina's seat of government was moved to Columbia. North Carolina on the other hand has its seat of government moved to Fayetteville, and then to Raleigh.

Nothing can be finer than to live in the Carolinas. As a resident of beautiful and historic Charleston, both states offer so many assets.

Insane how people from the other side of the world took land that wasn't theirs and gave it to other people who had no rights to it either.

The Carolina’s are the hidden gem of the US. Somehow Charleston is still hidden from the masses and people are just now catching on to how great Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greenville are. Also prayers to Asheville and those affected by the flooding 🙏

Correction: SC became the 8th state upon ratification of the U.S. Constitution on May 23, 1788 not 1778 as stated in the video. NC became the 12th state to ratify on Nov. 21, 1789.

The SC vote to ratify was split roughly 2/3-1/3. Delegates from the more wealthy coastal area were almost unanimous in support of ratification whereas those in the upstate were almost unanimous against. As a whole, NC representatives were more skeptical of a strengthened central government, which is a main reason why it took 18 months longer to ratify the Constitution.

The English Lords Proprietors of Carolina was basically North American feudalism. The brief history of feudalism in the Americas is kinda interesting, Canada had some too. Would love a video on it!

GREAT lesson.
Just enough, not too much, but enough to give us good rounded knowledge of these two states.
As much history as I've taken over the years, I've NEVER known most of these facts.
Thank you for this very interesting historical presentation.

Visit Charleston, South Carolina…it’s one of the most beautiful U.S. cities. Block after block in every direction 17th and 18th century homes, the Citadel, Charleston College, the Huntley, etc. Amazing place.

Western North Carolina has always been breathtaking, and it’s even more special now as we rebuild. Together, we’ll rise above the hardships and make this place even better.
