I was told by my infant's violin teacher that I should not learn to play violin along with him because I would intimidate him. Being the kind of mother who wants nothing more than to elevate her children, I complied. I went to every lesson. I knew what was expected, and I did my best to reinforce learning, but there was that day when I remember being so clearly exasperated that I snatched the violin from my child to demonstrate what I wanted from him only to realize I could not show him. It made no difference how many lessons I attended, if one doesn't do the practice work, one can not play the violin. One can not show him. This is what I know for sure. I am 79 years old, and I now am learning to play violin. Thank you for instruction that wasn't available to me back in the day. Thank you!

The way I was taught as a child has had a negative impact on me through adulthood and after watching your video it fixed every frustration I ever had with my vibrato technique. This is so clear and it feels natural. I cannot thank you enough!

This video was extremely helpful, I'm 72 and I've been playing for 2.5 years. I can play loads of nice tunes which would sound so much sweeter with vibrato. I'm not giving up, I'll definitely be trying your technique. Thank you so much.😊

7:12 "Which we, of course, practice more than the third finger" -- I felt that.

I like the guys who demonstrate more than explaining. You are definitively one of them. It is defeating that some videos talk theories during 30 minutes without showing a single entire vibrato phrase.

The way you explain is so simple yet the amount of point given and earn is alot. You are an amazing teacher, thank you.

holy smokes! Your "knock" technique made an immediate difference for me. It feels like it will take some time to build this into a habit, but I had all but given up hope and this seems to have cracked it. Much thanks!

I love the breakdown!
I’ve seen multiple videos where people instruct the same process. During vibrato, I see the arm shake but when they teach it, they focus on movement in the phalanges, others use wrist vibrato. This left me perplexed as to how the arm moves and an instructor replied it’ll move the faster I move my phalanges.
I see here that is not the case. I am excited to try this and improve my vibrato. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🤓

I'm 58 yrs old and have just one violin class. Your vibrato methodology sounds great. Lemme try and see how I cope up with it. Thank Great stuff.

This explanation is a remarkable teaching for me since I have always had a problem with employing the arm technique. You have made it more understandable and attainable for me. Thanks a zillion.

You sir are a genius. I have been trying to get good at vibrato (Cello). But no matter what, I could not maintain a nice rhythm. I would always come up with a very fast vibrato. This knock knock technique I just tried today and it worked so wonderfully. Thank you very much, very grateful to you.

Thank you so much for this!❤❤❤ The knocking technique really helped me. I can now do a basic vibrato, something I was struggling with for a long time.

I started learning violin at 16, fingering, bowing, and playing in tune wasn't an issue. I had just started learning vibrato when my lessons stopped and I moved away to college. Now 20 some years later, I've tried to teach myself vibrato over the years, but it's still not good. Partly because I wasn't sure I was doing it correctly. I was learning wrist vibrato, but found finger vibrato easier with my first and 2nd finger, but that motion didn't really work with my third finger, so I would then use the wrist vibrato which I have yet to get very even at a faster pace. I will try your method and see how it goes.
