When will we see an orbital Starship launch?
A = within a month
B = Within the next 6 months
C = By the end of this year
D = It'll take even longer

Small remind to avoid confusions...
Take care with weight units. Complete Starship weighs 5000 SHORT tons (or US tons).
1 short ton = 2000 imperial pounds
1 imperial pound = 0, 4536 kg
=> 1 short ton = 0, 9072 metric ton
=> 5000 short tons = 4536 metric tons
(the max weight given for the A380 is in metric tons, so confusion)

I just want to say that your writing style and delivery are excellent. Succinct and low level enough for me to understand. Though I like listening to Dodd and others speak in-depth on topics I know very little about, you're like the news channel to their education channels. Really a perfect combo. Keep it up Felix!

Hi Felix. Thanks for another great show. Your explanation of how the clamp load tester works was excellent. Now I understand what it's all about.

Happy New Year Felix and everyone.
The final message from Insight is heartbreaking. Listen to it.

Are there any companies addressing the cleaning of panels for the robots on future missions? Seems there's some money to be made there. :). Great episode as always Felix. Seems like you're getting your groove. Cheers!

A nice run through on the hold down clamps, though I too wonder about testing at this late date. So with that out of the way, all that needs to be done is to figure out a way to prevent the most powerful rocket ever built from carving a crater under the most expensive launch mount ever built with every launch. That lack of an exhaust diverter could prevent any launch from BC or the cape this year. Got my fingers crossed that I’m wrong.

Thank you Felix for the detailed testing about to be performed on the hold down clamps. I suspect that an actual launch of Star ship will not occur from Boca Chica but from Kennedy center Florida

One other reason for the clamp testing could be that they need annuals. Often these critical lift type devices have fabrication testing and annual maintenance testing and inspection. And even if you’re within your annual window, it’s often considered good/standard practice to perform this testing close to intended use

A splendid presentation; see you next week!

The weight testing is most likely going far beyond what Starship weights fully fueled and is probably also accounting for maximum weight carrying as well.

Earth's mantle is NOT MOLTEN (14:40)! It behaves in a ductile fashion, but is not molten. Earth's outer core is molten, the inner core is solid.

Thank You Felix!

Well done! The best summary of the Insight mission I have seen. As a professional physicist I often cringe a little at certain times in YouTube productions, though I still think an overall production is still OK. I have no (very little) cringing with your channel, keep up the good work.
