The reason why if there wasn't a horizontal speed limit you just keep accelerating is because with out friction you will just speed up until you reach a constant velocity

there is an item in game that the robot sells i forget its name but it disables the speed limit allowing you to go up to stupid speeds like 400 while you hold it up

U can get more speed in normal terraria if u walk on asphalt
