Cat 1(95-74= a difference of 23mph), Cat 2(110-96= a difference of 14mph), Cat 3(130-111= a difference of 19mph), Cat 4(155-131= a difference of 24mph) Cat 5 (155 to Irma's reported sustained windspeed of 185mph is a 30mph difference.)

I know they actually measure windspeed in knots and convert it over and round to the nearest 5 but this still puts the storm well within range of Category 6. Just because us humans didn't put it on a scale doesn't mean it can't be added and the only ones that will determine that is the NHC. Why it stops at 5 is because we didn't make a 6 yet, that is all.

Definitely stupid that there is no category 6. A low end cat 5 has winds equivalent to an EF-3 tornado. Hurricane patricia (strongest hurricane on record) had winds of 215 mph which is equivalent to an EF-5 tornado. 180 or 190+ needs to be classified as a category 6

If we do get a category 6 i don’t doubt that mexico or florida would be the first targets.

Cat 1= 70-95
Cat 2= 95-110
Cat 3= 110-130
Cat 4= 130-150
Cat 5= 150-190
Cat 6= 190-200
