In case anyone doesn't know the original concept of this before the edit, if a brand name becomes used as a generic term, that causes all kinds of legal problems for the company, so calling any gaming unit "a Nintendo" could have caused Nintendo to lose all of its copyrights or something like that.

The scariest and most realistic thing about a universe where Nintendo was never successful is the fact that the video game industry might have died out in the 80s. For those that don't know, E.T. for the Atari 2600 started the Video Game Crash of 1983 and the whole gaming industry almost went out of business until Miyamoto saved the industry with the success of Super Mario Bros. on the NES. Without Mario and Nintendo being successful, we likely wouldn't have a gaming industry today.
