A 62 mile high thrill ride doesnt make you an astronaut ! It makes you a thrill seeker !

*The "astronauts" leaving the capsule* : "Look at how rich I am!!"

“Retro thrust” “soft landing” “astronauts”

Every time I see Bezo's, I think of those Six Flags commercials.

These people are as much "astronauts" as Raygun is an "Olympic athlete"

Hardest "soft landing" I've ever seen.

Does anyone else find this coverage a little "off?"

They've been pretty successful as a 'one trick pony'. If other projects don't get some legs soon, maybe they should focus on the original intent of THIS program and make a ride to space feasible for us mere mortals !

Everyone in the chat was negative AF but who wouldn't want to do this?

Calling them astronaut is disrespectful to real astronauts.

Didn't like the idea of the flames toasting those cables like that while still attached to I'm also glad I'm not on that flight. Sounded like a bunch of bros. That landing though....ouch.

What "experiment" can be conducted with one minute of micro gravity? They have to be kidding right? What's next, a 10 second "space walk"? I recall Top Gear flew a space shuttle. This must have set a record for the most plastic surgery to fly in one capsule for ten minutes.

I won't call them astronauts as they just peaked their heads just above the official 100KM Karmanline for maybe 1-2 minutes before they already fall through it. It is a cheap way to count you as astronauts. I would say the minimum you have to reach is litterly Orbital velocity where you fligh fast enough you won't fall back into the atmosphere but litterly fall around the planet, that is really experiencing micro gravity for much longer time and to become astronaut you must at least 1 time circle the planet in orbital velocity where they have more time than just minutes to get the feeling beeing weightless. Most of the time of being weightless is below the Karmanline, so you can't call this a genuinely spaceflight. If you are in orbit you will see the earth litterly from another perspective I only saw clouds.

So for me it is comparing putting your toe in an icebath and saing you have been "in" the ice bath. So what they have done in comparison to a real space flight is almost the same as you train in a parabolic plane that goes up very steep and when reaching apogee and falling down you create also a weightless experience. So finally in this New Shepard achieved weightlessness purely trough the effect of going up fast and falling down and real astronauts achieve weightlesness dual to orbital velocity flight. And there is a huge gap in between those achievements.

Great job the word and I rather fly on your ship than that boeling nightmare
