Honestly with them offering it for free and them not taking money for anything its less likely to get shut down than a lot of other servers. Would be my guess anyway :)

I dont think its right to call it a "private server". Its really its own separate thing. A public server is a better description. Owners do not make money from it. Private server culture is shady. 2004scape is the last thing from shady. Rule breaking is banned. Strict no multilog. Strong emphasis on preservation and originality.

I think its worth playing given the integrity of it all. In a way, this feels more like the real Runescape than the live servers. Could Jagex crack down? Of course, . but we ride that wave as we come to it.

You forgot to mention its open source, so you could play offline if ever got taken down as an ironman. Which is what i would do.

i stopped playing osrs because of their terrible customer support. jagex are more of a "private server" than 2004scape.

if only you played osrs at launch. i voted no for GE and you now see why. it felt more lively even though half the ppl were bots selling and buying
