A forward head posture is a tough position to hangout in. FHP can create tension in muscles of the ribcage and neck. This position of the head also makes it hard to breathe. That’s why people with FHP often are seen mouth breathing. They do this because FHP narrows the airway and mouth breathing helps get more air into the lungs. To tackle FHP and mouth breathing, the ribcage needs to be addressed first. Often FHP is due to a ribcage that is tilted forward. Open the ribcage using these two exercises to get the head where it wants to be! To really hit a home run against mouth breathing, training your tongue to be in the correct position helps to open the airway and improve nasal breathing. Try the activities from this video to get your breathing to the major leagues.
