Before Being Tested For SIBO Follow These Precautions

Today we are talking about the preparation for a SIBO Breath test and some of the things you might have done wrong to cause your test to be negative when in fact you really do have SIBO.

Some of the points I want to address include, what you CANT eat, what you need to do 24 hours before the test, what you need to do the night before the test, the day of the test, the medications you need to stop, and the diet you need to follow for at least two weeks leading up to the test.
 
I am shocked every day by the number of breath tests that come past my desk, and on further questioning the patient we quickly find out that they didn’t follow the necessary steps in order to obtain an accurate test.

I have a breath test tomorrow. So scared. I have been getting violently Ill since feb. Loosing weight, rotten egg smelling gas and stool. When I get these severe episodes and I clear my body of vomit and diarrhea then I am a little better until the next time. The smell/sulfuric egg smelling gas does until the next episode.

Great information and when I see my new Dr who I hope will be the one that helps me I'm going to bring this up. I'm so tired, achy, digestion issues, constipation, bloating, diarrhea and I have hypothyroidism.

My dr office said 4 weeks off antibiotics for the other two you mentioned 8 weeks
Can’t eat or drink after 8 pm test is at 8:30 am
You are right let’s hope they choose the right. I was given a handout. APRN didn’t go over the test with me. I am disgusted that I see a APRN she’s nice but NOT a doctor

I am 60 yrs old and have raced ironman triathlons. For the last 20 yrs, super fit and now look 4 month preg with massive burping and gas and bloating. I take thyroid meds for last 27 yrs. iodine radiation 27 yrs ago. Should i take a SIBO test? This condition needs to go away. Thank u. Where are u located?

What about digestive enzymes, like Biogest, betaine, and iberogast? Do these need to be discontinued 1-3 weeks before the test as well?

Hi I've had ibs for a long time now I've basically tried everything I also had a igg test for celiac disease which was normal and also took antibiotic rifaxamin which didn't help at all and every food that I eat gives me discomfort (ibs symtoms) what I want to know is that could it be sibo and which type of food can I eat because my doctor said he can't do anything and I'm out of options
