Inertial pump diameters range from 6 millimeters for very narrow installations, to 25 millimeters for 100-millimeter diameter boreholes. The standard 16 millimeter is the most common and can reach up to 60 meters. This size will also attach straight onto a 0.45 micron filter. You can get a sample from 85 meters using a special thicker-wad tube. This type of pump is used for fixed volume sampling; it’s not ideal for volatiles due to the motion of the pump. If used with a surge block, it's also an excellent tool for well development.
