Putin tells Lukashenko: Russia to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus in July
Показать описание
Russian President Putin on Friday said that Moscow would deploy some of its tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus next month.
Putin made the remarks during a meeting with Belarusian President Lukashenko.
This is Moscow’s first move of such bombs outside Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union.
The move comes as Ukraine has stepped up attacks in several sectors of the frontline in what some observers see as the start of its long-expected counteroffensive.
Putin in March announced he wanted to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, an apparent warning to the U.S.-led NATO military alliance over it support for Ukraine.
Putin’s nuclear move is being watched closely by both the United States and its NATO allies in Europe and by China, which has repeatedly cautioned against the use of nuclear weapons in the conflict.
