Two rules when shopping in a supermarket:
1. Avoid opening your backpack in a supermarket. If you absolutely have to get something, do it as far away from any shelves as possible.
2. ALWAYS ask for a receipt and do NOT throw it away until your item is taken home or, if it’s food or drink, consumed. You never know if you will be visiting a supermarket later that day.

She got lucky there. Some stores might not be able to print a receipt from a purchase made a day ago.
