People need the money. Churches rely on donation. Religion should never receive money from the state/province. That tax money belongs to the roads and services the public needs.

I don't understand how I a non religious person who is not affiliated or a member of a religion should have my tax paying money go towards these places....who don't even pay tax. Makes no sense.

This is a case of the people not working together for a better society, turning to your own people is the last thing you should be doing because it shows that you have no interest in the welfare of other communities. This is not what real citizens do when times are tough.
