An idiot’s guide to being on a steering committee

If you’ve been conscripted into being on a steering committee for a project, but have no idea what this is or what you need to do, then this is for you!

So what’s a steering committee?

It’s a group that provides oversight, direction and approval to the project manager.

How can you be a good steering committee member?

1. Make sure you fully understand what the project is supposed to be delivering

2. Read all of the reports before the meetings

3. Complete your actions promptly and update the project manager

4. Challenge anything you don’t agree with

5. Attend as many meetings as possible

Now that you know what is expected of you, relax. With any luck there will be muffins at the next steering committee meeting, which is always a bonus!
