Poll Results: America Fundamentally Progressive

More polls were released by Gallup & Rasmussen proving once again that America is fundamentally progressive. The polls asked about birth control, abortion and marijuana legalization. Cenk Uygur discusses the results. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

There's one fundamental aspect that the last poll on pro-choice vs legal abortions only touched upon but didn't focus on that much: It proves just how powerful propaganda can be in the arts of confusion, misdirection, and just plain misinformation.


I believe that, just as there are disclaimers on cigarettes that smoking can kill, and on adult films that it contains imagery not suitable for minors, there should be a mandatory disclaimer on Fox News stating that it is OPINION ONLY, NOT NEWS!

I'm from Vermont; I volunteered for the Freedom To Marry Task Force/Action Committee on numerous occasions.

Very few states allow same-gender marriage, and less than half of all states even allow or recognize civil unions. FFS, most states don't even have domestic partnership laws! Further, gay marriage has failed in every voter referendum in every state it has been tried. Most of the states that allow gay marriage only passed those laws after state supreme court rulings FORCED them to do so.

I can understand how people would feel uncomfortable if we legalized all drugs (which we should do) but weed being illegal in the year 2012 is an embarrasment.

im canadian, pro choice (reduces crime etc), and for the legalization of marijuana (something ive never tried but through research and documentaries have learned about) and have voted a few times now.

My father (early 60s) is one of a small group of conservative democrat/liberals. He's very conservative, but socially he's completely liberal. He's also very religious, a devout Catholic. Go figure. When I moved down south, I was amazed to see how many 55+ men and women are so out of touch. Republican and working against their own interests. I'm so glad I grew up in a house, altho strict, was non-judgmental and taught their kids to help everyone, not just poor white people.

I can't count how many other women I know who have said "I personally wouldn't ever have an abortion, but I think other women should be able to choose."
How can they be called 'babykiller enablers' or 'in favor of abortion'?

Cenk is completely correct. I think this is the main reason most Americans are so angry at Washington politicians. I know that is why I am so disgusted.

I live in MA, the first state in the country to recognize and perform same-sex marriages. It is also legally recognized in New York, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Washington D.C. and Washington state.

California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Wisconsin & Illinois legalized gay civil unions.

Throughout history, it's been progressivism that has given people freedoms: freedom of women and minorities to vote; freedom for interracial marriage; freedom from slavery; freedom of women to enter the workplace; workers' rights; integration of the military.

I'm just not sure how giving people a choice on whether they can have an abortion or not is the government telling them what to do. Seems to me that it would be true if that choice were legally removed.

Not enough times obviously. Because Americans still view the words 'liberal' and 'progressive' as curses. Conservatives have been very good at achieving that.

Totally correct. NY has a massive Catholic population (I was raised that way) and as brash and rough-around-the-edges as NYs can be, they're very non judgmental when it comes to life decisions of personal differences. Some of the most caring people. A stark contrast to the Republican racially charged atmosphere of the South where I now live.
