Hot take: azir being balanced by being difficult to pilot is part of what makes him cool. Giving pros a champ with basically unlimited skill cap that’s viable in pro play is sick. No one ever complains about a yasuo/yone lock in in pro play, it’s much better to see an azir lock in than fkin annie

Range is a tool most players dont leverage. But i think Azir has one interaction different to other mid range mages and its that he has great enough mobility to engage a ranged opponent which other mid ranges don't. He also can setup or follow engage and can escape. It's probably a perspective thing where pros prefer Azir rather than Azir being really strong, because anyone who watches games can see Azir is not that threatening right now, there are clear counters (like mentioned in the video) but also in-game too by coordinated teams.

I'm surprised League of Legends pros have such a simplistic understanding of the meta. In almost every other competitive esport, it's way more complex and nuanced. Dota 2 comes to mind.

I think he is so highly rated because he is decent to good vs all of the existing themes, except for the one, that is not getting played (poke). Which makes him a good answer to every pick that is ever going to happen, hence people think he is no1 mid.

Also, Yone/Xerath (unless azir has a ganking jungler and xerath has a carry jungler)
slap the shit out of Azir, if pro players are unwilling to adapt, to learn counters to alleged 97% pick/ban champs, then they are fools.
We should not be coddling pro players with patches who don't think it is the obligation to learn new champs that counter their opponents.

I think its funny when players pick azir, use their entire kit to displace part of the enemy team, then promptly die. So they start building crown and defeat the purpose of pick azir in the first place

azir player here.
After rework, his overall laning is a lot worse.
He loses harder than before to high range mages, his waveclear pre chapter and lvl 5 is horrendeus.
He is about the same vs melee, (better auto less better q).
Azir CAN do a lot of things, but he can't do MOST of them at the same time, if he uses dash for example, he cant engage for like 20 seconds, which is a huge window for enemy team to start a teamfight.
Which makes him incredibly hard to play, people make a ton of mistakes with him.
Often you can go in for a burst with ult, but then you're immediately destroyed as youre out of position unless you manage to kill them in that time

I guess a lot of the counters for Azir are considered too unreliable for pro players? As they’re long range skill shot champs like Xerath, Varus, Ziggs maybe they’re worried that they’ll miss everything and look stupid

Tldr; the reason why Azir is so strong is because his counters require being good + having a brain.

Thing that are difficult for pros to have at the same time.

I am just watching this for the first time and and 0:57 I just want to say that I think we all will learn that there are picks that can do well into him and that can punish him for existing, but people just don't want to play that way (or don't know how to) in which case yeah, it is most broken mid. Kind of like if you can only eat potatoes then fries are the staple.

I wanna say there will be Corki, but I'm on my 3rd rum n coke in 2nd country today so hope I am getting surprised here 😅
