You definitely already use roles in Final Cut Pro whether you are aware of it or not, but you might not be properly harnessing the power of roles. In this video, I’m going to explain how roles work, how you can customise them and different ways to use them that will you a better editor. I’ll also share a really cool little trick on how to create your own roles template so that you don’t have to set this up every time you start a new project.
By default you have roles for Titles, Video, Dialogue, Effects and Music. Each one is color-coded and Final Cut Pro assigns the audio role for any video files you drop onto the timeline to dialogue. Having different kinds of titles, footage and audio color-coded like this makes it really easy to navigate around the timeline especially when it comes to fine tuning an edit and color grading it.
