Retest of the Onyx MTB rear hub.

There was discussion on my previous video about how much drag there seem to be on the rear wheel while free spinning. The main issue was proper adjustment of the cinch nut. I did not adjust it while it was on the bike with the rear axle torqued down like you're supposed to. After adjusting the cinch nut properly, I feel this test is a better representation of the operation of the Onyx hub. I tried to stay as quiet as possible.

So keen to get these hubs. I'm glad that they make em in every size/configuration available, as I'm getting it for an older bike. Will be getting mine next month :D

Thanks for doing the retest, I know these weight more than other hubs but that engagement and you showing the lack of any drag has pretty much sold me on getting these hubs!

I have had an onyx vesper for a month and have driven over 500 km. Is it normal that when I turn the pedals backwards, the rear wheel also starts spinning backwards?

Hi Sam I did end up ordering the Onyx hub, do you recall how long the break in was and do you feel the builder overtightened the preload adjustment? I have not put the wheels on the bike yet but from playing with it, I can hear and see drag (sounds like the sprags are slightly rubbing) when holding the XD driverbody - similar to my old pawl system but obviously quieter and not notchy but a consistent drag. Looks like yours has almost no drag at all - mine is only like that when I hold the hub by the ends and let the driver spin freely which won't be the case when I attach it to the bike.
