I have had a ton of business come by and I am on Social Security, and there is no extra money, I have a lawn man who comes for 7 months of the year and it's $700. 00 a year. I'm 73, and there is so much I do on my own, and so much that doesn't get done, because I am not able. Last night after I had all the trash to the curb, I walked around the house and filled two more trash bags. I have cut my hair for 40 years, I got rid of my car in 2012, I make my own skin care, and I never use make up, I drink water only, i'm vegan, I do take a cab for groceries, I try my clothes on dryer racks, I take 5 minute showers, i use a dime's worth of shampoo, and I only use conditioner and the ends of my hair. I rinse my hair with vinegar. I own two bath towels. I buy dawn original blue and place 3 tablespoons in a 12ounce spray bottle i add i tablesppon bleach and fill with water you have never seen such clean dishes. that $5.99 bottle of Dawn lasts 8-10 months, . I use Biokleen liquid laundry detergent i use 1 tablespoon per load. Suds mean there are carcinogenic chemicals in your wash which absorb into your skin when dry. These are a few of my tips.

I'm big on go-backs, returns. As you know, I'm kind of an impulse shopper, for myself and the boys. You are really good at saying no-thanks, they don't need that. Or, that's not the right thing, instead of just keeping it and adding it to the clutter. So I save money by not keeping things that aren't what is really needed, and I'm not shy to return an item to the store. I also do these chores by myself; clean house, change ac filter, do gardening, cut my hair, cut husband's hair, wash my car, clean windows, do my own nails (toenail clippers). A big savings 7 years ago, I stopped coloring my hair. I'm pretty much a tight-wad. Love MOM

Hello from the London, UK. Thanks for sharing Shannon - your videos are really great for aspiring minimalist families. Here are four money saving tips that work really well for us:
1) I try to take public transport or walk instead of use the car where reasonable. Fuel and parking is more expensive here in London than in other parts of the world and it is fairly easy to get around here with the bus or tube. Covid has made this more difficult but hopefully this will again become more possible in time. I know that bikes have become more attractive alternatives to public transport over the last few months too.
2) To save money we try to go our local (free) parks instead of shopping or eating out. It’s so much more relaxing, easy exercise and great to actually see some nature.
3) For food shopping, I order online so I know exactly how much I am spending before purchasing. This has forced me to meal plan as well as buy actual ingredients for home cooked meals; so much more cost effective (not to mention healthy and tasty) than buying packaged ready meals.
4) Finally, when I have to do some shopping in person or online with young children in tow, it can be hard if they spot something they ‘really really’ want but which just isn’t reasonable/possible. To manage their expectations I let them take a photo / screenshot of the desired item for their Christmas/ birthday wish list. Just this act usually alleviates their desire for the item so they can just forget about it and you can get on with your day.

Need? Want? No TV. Mow my lawn. Shovel my drive & sidewalk. Cuty own hair. Declutter 24/7. Shop my own house...for everything. Buy ONLY what I need. Pray before making a purchase & waiting 24 hrs. Eat leftovers. Buy @ discount & freeze in small portions. Make my own yummy coffee. Always pack a lunch. Reuse. Recycle. Repurpose. Make cleaning products. Experience rather than gifting. Sending notes to people (gets me out of my own head) to encourage others. Started the last of March, & I've sent 127 notes... I need to get busy again. Be blessed.

Hi Shannon. You’ve got the right idea...it’s the small things that add up. One thing I try to do to save money, especially with online shopping, is to give myself 24 hours to ask myself “ do I/we truly need this? “ if after sleeping on it, I still think I should get the item, then I do. Many times though, I don’t buy it, as It was just a passing thought. I often do this too, when I want to buy new clothes. I put them in the online shopping cart and step away. Often, it’s just the reality if the total cost that makes me decide not to complete the purchase.
Keep your ideas coming. We are in this together. Have a great day. ☀️

Good points! Since I have retired 5 years ago, I have done these tips. At first I was not sure I could live on the fixed income, but it was so MUCH easier than I thought. I am living debit free and I actually save enough money to enjoy my vacations.

I have always timed my haircuts to a wedding or special event. Then I get it blow dried nicely the day I need to go somewhere.... usually a few times a year. ☺️

Every product of in a tube-- toothpaste, lotion, mustard, ketchup, etc; when you think it's gone, do not throw away yet. Cut off end furthest from cap . Days and days more product. Scoop out with baby spoon or popsicle stick. Fold over open end, clamp, store on original cap.

Ok, so you did it again
You've made life so simple for me
I live in Trinidad and we live simple life a lot like this video suggested, but strange enough I thought I had to have all the things that you said not to have, I thought if I didn't have them I would not fit in. So thank you sooo much for encouraging me that I don't have to have the unnecessary things to enjoy life much love...

Thank you for your videos!
A way I like to save money is to buy second hand. Everything except underwear. And shoes only if worn once or twice. Especially kids clothes. It's cheaper, all the chemicals have been washed out, the clothes aren't just trashed when still in good condition (filling up a landfill somewhere) and it saves resources from having to be used for making new clothes.
We also get most of our furniture, some books and toys second hand.

I have discontinued subscription boxes. It was constant repeats and products that I wasn’t using and creating clutter of skin care and makeup. I would find myself going back to my tried and true products.

I have a hair style that I can get done every 4-6 months. I tell my stylists to also do my highlights so that they grow out more natural and I don't go more than a few shades lighter than my natural color so this works and does save me a lot of money.

For me buying groceries online keeps me from going over budget. I can take things out of the cart if it comes over but when i go to the shop i have no idea what it will come to. It also keeps me from impulse buys!

To supplement point 2, take water with you when you go out. It is not only good for your wallet, it’s also good for your teeth. Soda or sweet drinks are very bad to teeth, especially if you dun drink water afterwards.

3-4: I am getting to limit money spent on hair styling and manicure.

I am an Amazon addict - I have recently found that adding to my 'Wish list' has almost zeroed my purchases. Now when I log in to Amazon (to check my subscribe and save items to see if they are needed that month) I end up browsing for a little while and for a long time would end up impulse buying - now I add to a Wish list and look at that the following log in and almost all of it I find I do not actually want or need and don't buy . . . .

You can do so much to safe money including making your own facial creams, body butters, laundry and dish detergent. I use homemade wooly balls for the dryer as well. Its money saving and so much better for you.

I go to the salon w/fresh clean hair so my stylist just wets/cuts/styles. This saves me $ as she doesn't charge for shamp/cond.
My husband has used the Flowbee haircutting system for the past 28 years. So imagine how much $ we have saved as his full thick head of hair grows like weeds and can cut as he wishes.

Excellent suggestions. I am thinking about stopping my housekeeper service and doing it myself not that I’m retired. $120 every other week adds up so fast! Thanks for another great video Shannon
