It’s like the “southern goodbye”, minus the bowing. I’ve had southern goodbyes last hours lol

It's been about 20 minutes since this was posted, so now I finally feel like I can leave, thank God

That's literally how it is here in the south, lol.

Here in brazil sometimes we leave instantly and sometimes the goodbye last 500 hours 😂

I've traveled the world and and met scores of different cultures, I'm starting to think that this "long goodbye" trancends all races and is just inherient to mankind in general. 😅 I have still yet to meet the mythical culture that justs says. "Bye" and then dips.

Bowing and say thank you repeatedly for show respect

It's like that with Irish people too. Minus bowing obviously 😆

We have the same issue here in the Midwestern USA.

Legend says this man in the glasses was still saying goodbye to anyone in Japan but he has never left his spot since then!

One eternity later, the two fellows are still bowing ..

God, it's like here in Ireland where you can't immediately hang up on a phonecall, it's a whole DLC of 'yeah, bye, bye bye, okay, yeah. Bye bye bye, yeah, mmhmm, bye'

"Bai bai!" sounds so childish and condescending when a foreigner hears it.

If someone said "bai bai!" to me, I instantly feel like a 2 year-old boy. I'm a grown forking man! :)

In the northwestern US it's this way too. You'll probably say bye, and then someone will continue the conversation while you're putting shoes on, and then you'll be inching towards the door, while continuing to talk. In then end there have been times when I've had to say goodbye at least three or four times before actually leaving. I don't really mind it usually, because often the conversation and friendship is so good.

Sounds like trying to leave church in our neighborhood.

Just saying "mata ne" or "mata ashita" was somehow emotional 'cause you may not see them tomorrow or soon. You/they may busy, maybe do something with other or maybe just gone. So I'd say better just had a small talk and then bow as sign of "thanks for hang out" before back home

It's a battle of 'bye' in Japan, winner takes all 😅
