Heartily agree that petites (like me) suit just above the knee or a bit shorter, and tailored/fitted is best or one with a belt 😊

Thank you Marie-Anne for the quick tip. As a petite, I’m always interested in any topic on proportional dressing. I really like the long length coats that I see in adverts, but they are not for me. I wore a just about the knee, deep red, wool coat for several years and received compliments from strangers each time I was out and about.

Uh oh! Nothing longer than knee-length! Most of my coats are a no-no. but I do have a trench coat which is thigh-length and it looks great on me, thus proving your point!

Had to go to the wardrobe and try on my favourite winter navy blue wool and cashmere coat to find it is definitely above my knees, phew!

Hi Marie Anne, this is unrelated but I though I would share it with you. The other day I bought a breton-style jumper with 85% natural fibres for half price!! It is so luxurious and warm, plus I know I will have it for the rest of my life. I already have a light weight cotton one but I found this, which is more for winter. Following your advice of French chic staples, as soon as my eyese landed on it, I knew I had to bring it home. You have heightened my awareness of what is classic and chic, and the breton style is timeless and elegant.

I am five foot tall and coats are one of the most difficult items to buy for me. As you say, it is so easy to end up disappearing underneath a coat that swamps me! I find I can only buy coats from petite brands as otherwise the waistline or belt is around my hips and the shoulders are too wide for me.

Bonjour Anne-Marie. Although at 5'3" l agree too long can swamp, but my most admired faux ocelot coat (Made in France) is actually ANKLE length. It acts as glamorous central heating on snowy journeys where l experience amazing compliments from passersby. I feel warm top to toe in England's minus 5° wrapped in it.
Today, inspired by you, l cut out the worn brown lining to re-line it with a rich red 💃 silk to make the coat look + feel like new.
A mid-calf midi length drowns me comically 🤭 but for some reason the hang + swagger of the cut of this long faux fur looks amazingly swish (l am told). Red suede Chelsea boots with it guarantee more 'wows.' WIll let you know how my machining ✂️🧵 goes ❤
