For context: Asteroid Benu, which makes one orbit around the Sun every 1.2 years, and a close approach to Earth every six years (distance varies), has a cumulative 1-in-1, 750 (perhaps adjusted to 3000) chance of impacting Earth between 2178 and 2290 with the greatest risk being on 24 September 2182. It was the target of NASA's *OSIRIS-REx mission to collect an asteroid sample and bring it to Earth.
It was named after (another interestingly Egyptian myth reference) the great heron/eagle god Bennu, an important deity in ancient Egyptian creation myths associated with the Sun, creation, and rebirth. Bennu may have preceded and inspired the Phoenix in Greek mythology.

According to the interpretation of Hans Konstapel, the Benben Stone (also called capstone or pyramidion that topped a pyramid) was seen as the solidified Seed of Atum, the Stone of Creation. It was on this stone that the Phoenix or Benu Bird would return every 12, 594 years (half a Precession Cycle) and "place its new Egg" (asteroid impact reference?). At that moment a new Era of Mankind was started. The Benu Bird came from the 'Isle of Fire', the mythical place where the gods were born.

*OSIRIS-REx is an acronym for "Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security – Regolith Explorer. Rex also means soveriegn, monarch, or ruler.

What if in the future when technology becomes more advanced and precise, and they determine that the asteroid will indeed hit the earth, they calculate that it was the act of taking a sample from the asteroid that caused an ever so slight deviation in its orbit and was responsible for putting it on said collision course?
