I still remember in the very early 2000's, the very first USB thumb drive I got was a Kingston 512MB. Some new computer shop were giving them away to the first 100 visitors. And I was blown away by having 512MB of storage. I still have/used that thumb drive. As I was used to having to carry around a pile of hard floppys at the time.

I've used several of the brands you covered in builds and external drives and they've never given me a problem.

I don’t trust Amazon for products like these. I ordered 4 NVMe’s and two of the boxes were empty and a third unit was obviously damaged and a returned item. It took me several weeks to get this rectified. Amazon chose not to believe the customer and sent me around in circles dealing with customer reps based in India. They would promise to take care of the refund, but never follow through. Even though these units weigh almost nothing, the weight of the shipping box, as printed on the UPS label, showed that it was underweight if all four drives were present. Even with this data, I couldn’t get a refund. I escalated the issue, but still got the “Don’t worry, Mr. Carl - it’s all taken care of.” Only when I sent the entire thread of emails and chats to Jeff Bezo’s email address, did I finally get a refund. That was 6 years ago - maybe it’s better now. Anyway, I stick with B&H, a highly reputable company that stands behind everything they sell and ship.

Craig I have used several of your recommendations including SSD and NVME drives. Solid. Thank you. Would you consider doing a video on wireless keyboards?

Check your local Staples and Walmart stores in person. I got a 2tb Samsung 990 Pro at Staples for $119.99 last month, along with a couple HP branded 512gb nvme drives for $14.99. They still have 1tb 2.5” ssds for $40-$60. And Walmart has been clearing out their solid state drives that are 1tb or less. Brands like WD Black, Blue, and PNY.

Thanks!! I think I will try some of the WD Green for my mac backups, they are only going over usb3 anyway.

My next ssd was going to be the samsung 8tb as my all in one drive which I could have bought used last year for £220. Move forward to now the price new reached nearly £500. May look at a raid option as 8tb nvme are eye watering in price.

Be very cautious when buying hard drives from amazon, regardless of paid views. What spinning hard drives do you recommend for video storage?

thx for this video, but here in germany its to late^^ ive got timetech on my checklist a few months ago but they are hitting now the same prices as better known brands. is there any hope on the horizon that ssd prices going back to normal. my last ssd i bough for my self was the p300 at the beginning of 2023 and i paid 48 euro. and that was not the cheapest i also bought an 2tb sata from teamgroup for 75 bucks. and now we are getting closer to this price for 1tb. at the start of ssds i paid 80 bucks for 240gb sata ssd. if we hit that again, i guess ill quit building systems. bad gpu prices, bad mobo prices on b650 for am5 or b760 for the intel side and bad ssd prices.cant wait to see higher psu prices and cpu prices so i can close my store^^

Hey Craig, is Kingston NV2 1TB a reliable SSD for a mid tier Windows laptop? I got this drive when it went on sale for $40USD and use in a external enclosure, my Windows laptop's are PCIe Gen 3 though..don't want to purchase any drive as prices have almost doubled from last year..
I am having 256gb in laptop, but only have this Kingston NV2 in hand, shall i upgrade with this?

I always just stick with well known name brand SSD's. Just not worth the risk of potentially losing data going with unknown or brand new companies.

Heard ssd nand drives is not as good for long term storage compared to a magnetic hard drive ...they need to be turned on every few years to ensure data integrity

Do you think ssd prices will go down in the near future?

I wouldn't buy the lowest price SSD for myself. Maybe as a gift for secret Santa. . .
