Although their appearance is odd, Amphipods are not aliens, they are actually called “freshwater shrimp”, “scuds", or “side-swimmers”, they are small, bottom-dwelling crustaceans that can grow up to 2 centimeters in length. These invertebrates actually exhibit highly variable coloration, ranging from dark brown and green to white and translucent.

Don't lie. The artist behind the design of the alien in Alien, Aliens & Alien 3 is known as H.R Giger. He was a Swiss artist known for his combination of living creatures and mechanical engineering concepts. There where many aquatic and insectoid concepts used in his art, mixed with mechanical and metallic parts to create a symbiotic organic/metallic mix that appeared as Alien as possible to the layman.

Actually xenomorphs the monsters in ALIEN and it's subsequent movies were designed by H.R. Giger after he was inspired by his own painting Necronom IV. He was also part of the special effects team in which his designs earned them an Academy Award. The idea that the queen xenomorph was based on phronima is anecdotal at best having only ever been mentioned as such by David Attenborough in the documentary Blue Planet. Since xenomorphs were a creation of H.R. Giger who sadly passed away in 2014 and never made a statement regarding phronima as a design muse, we may never truly know if this is accurate.
