Is climate change irreversible?

A recent article published by the US National Academy of Sciences warns that world efforts to curb climate change may be too little, too late. Though the findings are not conclusive, they again emphasize the vital importance of nations working together to do whatever is possible, as quickly as possible. The alternative is to risk disaster for humankind on a scale previously unimagined. So, is the recent global extreme weather an exception to the current trend, or an ominous sign of worse things to come?
