In 1971, Russian MiG-25 Jets Flew Over Israel Unchallenged.

On October 10th, 1971, a pair of MiG-25s was spotted flying directly above the coastline of Israel. The F-4 Phantom II aircraft were alerted, but they were not able to reach 78,000 feet. Soon, the MiG25s were flying over Sinai unchallenged. On May 16th, 1972, two MiG-25s photographed all enemy positions on the eastern side of the Suez Canal. Four F-4s were sent to intercept them, but only one was able to approach the MiGs. It launched an Aim-7, but the Sparrow missile failed mid-air and hit the ground instead of MiG-25. In the summer of 1972, their task was done. Hence, all 4 MiGs were stored in underground shelters at the Cairo West air base.

Unreal this was only a couple decades after WW2. Technical leap is mental

I read several years ago that one F-4 Phantom pushed its engines so hard that it actually reached Mach 2.6. The engines, however, were ruined.

Whoever says Russian equipment is junk needs to see this. This aircraft was untouchable in its time for a long time.

The MIG25..., an aircraft designed initially ONLY as an SR-71 interceptor, NOT A DOGFIGHTER, was used in higher visual range dogfights against US F-15s in IRAQ 1991 and still managed to hit one of the F-15s and on another occasion, shot down an F-18C. According to what it was only meant to fight against as a poor turning interceptor, it shouldn't have been able to achieve any of those victories. MIG-25..., one of the most beautiful 1970s fighter aircraft I've ever seen.

as disposable as the SU-25's engines were, it's still one mean ass looking jet. and you gotta give credit to the russians for their design on this thing. also, that thing is absolutely massive! i'm so happy that Viktor Belenko defected with that thing and showed the west how low the bar was actually set. (in terms of build quality) 😂😂😂

pretty sure it's set a shit ton of records that still hasn't been beat to this day.

It’s a known fact that at any given time only 25% of MIG25 were operational. Lack of repair parts and denatured alcohol. The tube type radar and weapons systems generated so much heat it required a 300 gallon reservoir of alcohol for coolant. You guessed it. Maintenance crews were drinking the alcohol.

Last I checked the Blue Angels never flew intercept missions 😂

then the F-15 appeared in US/Israeli inventories and the MiG25's fell out of the sky

They were very fast but not very maneuverable. It was said that it was fast as a bullet and turned like one too. A lot of its capabilities were hype, when a Russian flew one to Japan it was taken apart and turns out it was very shabby construction but it was the reason the F15 eagle was developed.

Something is wrong with date... In 1971 only jet fighter available for Egypt air forces is mig21

Hawk is definitely too short legged to catch a Foxbat in high cruise… Much bigger stuff needed.

By the way, when MiG 25's went to full power their engines had to be replaced

One Iraqi MIG25 was shot down by an Iranian F5 Tiger using guns during their war.
