It is actually possible to beat Metallic Madness Zone 2 in the past. The slow moving pillar actually bounces you upwards really high for some bizarre reason, allowing you to reach the top path and continue progressing. And the reason why I know this is because that was actually covered in Johnny's old review!

CD brought over a lot of staple elements and I'll always appreciate its aesthetics and ideas but I wish there was a 2nd iteration of the time travel gimmick that took full advantage of the concept. Like make the actual time traveling easier and making exploring all versions of the stage a core gameplay element. Have moments where you have to find items in the future to bring back to the past or something along those lines. As is, there's no real gameplay incentive to go to the future, making it kind of a wasted opportunity.
