Framing and composition are necessary terms to understand if you are going to make compelling visuals for your video. These 7 rules for composition and framing will help you craft shots that look more and more professional.

In this video we explore a few of the more basic and foundational rules of composition. These include the rule of thirds, symmetry, leading lines, leading room, depth, and size of subject. Lastly we look at how following these rules can help you, but strategically breaking them can also be an important decision that can benefit your project. Ultimately, the most important part of film-making is your story. Everything else comes second.

its so satisfying when you come across a cinematographer or editor who actually understands this information compared to trying to explain it to someone (like a client) who doesn't understand why these shots or edits are framed the way they are.

I've always dreamed of directing and shooting a movie (or a short film, at least), but never acted on it because I know how expensive the required equipment is, and how many skills you need to have which I really don't. I'm a person of arts so photography is one of my hobbies and who knows, I might actually shoot a short film someday! Thank you so much for all the valuable and interesting information!

Thank you for speaking clearly and not using annoying background music. The rules are very helpful too! Have been using most of them, but it's great to see someone explain them so well!

When I first got into photography a very well known photographer gave me some of the best advice ever. He said, you know all these photography rules? Throw them out.😁 In all seriousness these rules are to help you for sure, but don't get stuck in them. Take images that inspire "you". Great vid. Happy picture taking!😎

I really appreciate videos like these. Filmmaking has always been fascinating to me and when you realize how much is told just by what we are seeing makes it that much more magical.

Love this! Great explanation! I especially love the line about how a wide vs a medium shot can show how your character has more control over the situation.

I find myself coming back to this every once in a while to remind myself of these rules. Thanks again for the explanations. Very concise and straightforward.

Mate thank you !! You made it so easy to someone whos totally blank like me. Clear explanation and you clearly showed the lines where it should be. I have watched few others which at the end made me more confused. Great job ! Keep it coming

as a digital artist and not someone who works in film in any way, this was actually really helpful. i was looking for a good solid rehash of rules of composition in scenes and this has a ton of great examples of the rules in action. especially love the encouragement at the end to not worry about breaking the rules.

Like seriously, this video is so good, why aren't there more view.
p.s the thumbnails on this channel do not do the videos any sense of justice! They are so boring. I love the content but I don't even wanna click because the thumbnail is so ambiguous and nothing like the actual video.
maybe that's a contributing factor :)

In the beginning, I thought this guy would've been very disturbing but it ended up being so friendly! Good video!

Very good advice. My biggest takeaway, take a moment and plan your shot before shooting. Thanks!👍

This is so helpful! Thank you for sharing it. The more I learn the better my videos are getting, and although I’ve heard of all these before it’s always good to have a reminder. 😊🐕🐕🐾🐾
