LibreOffice rules. After 10 years of Microsoft Office, I switched without a regret. Ever.

LibreOffice at home, MS Office for the office. After all the company pays for the licenses, not me. lol

Now (October 2019) Libre Office has ribbon interface already, which is such a good reason to finally migrate to it.

Just a mental note: I hear people all the time speaking of the LOOK of the two suites, when in the world of BUSINESS no one CARES what it LOOKS LIKE as long as it WORKS the way you want it to! I mean to hear people say that LibreOffice looks a little outdated speaks volumes about those who use it and are looking for MS Office. A real "professional" who has installed LibreOffice uses it and appreciates the fact that it WORKS!...who gives a flying fruit basket what it looks like? Your boss won't care, just as long as those figures on the spreadsheet that you submit are correct, or just as long as your 12 page report is readable and coherent. Sometimes people "cry" too much about the most insignificant things! And don't forget LibreOffice is FREE so you can't really complain TOO much about it.I guess if you REALLY want the look of MS Office 2016?....then go out and BUY MS Office 2016!

Why is Foxit PDF integration considered an "extra" feature? You sure can export to PDF in LibreOffice. You can even create standard-compliant PDF forms or edit PDFs in Draw. As for bibliography support, LibreOffice has it's own built-in tool that is rather rudimentary, but coupled with the Zotero plugin it's the best of it's kind.

I came from MS Office 2013 to libreOffice 5.1 and I am truly surprised, how good it works! Nice piece of software.

Been using Libre Office for a day and can't really see a big difference between this and MS office for the regular user. I've been using Calc Spreadsheet more than the other ones because I do a lot of mail merges and Libre gives more options for csv output than Excel. I will difinitely be switching from Excel to Calc Spreadsheet for my csv needs.

I like how in Libre it has the tool bar on the right hand side. Very nice.

I disagre about PDF and saving to cloud storage:
1) Save to PDF was in Open/Libre Office, ever since it's inception and Opening (importing) of PDF files support is almost complete now. They've been working on importing PDF files for a while now, @ least, since the 4th version branch, I've noticed work on PDF importing, but Ididn't check. Maybe this project started earlier.
2) Libre Office has a save to cloud, except not to MS cloud solution (@ least, I didn't check for it), but it has save to google drive, right from the menu.

You don't need Google Drive, just use MEGAsync and use edit documents on LibreOffice in local while they are syncing to the cloud. Fast and efficient, even if you open a database (LibreOffice Base).

Recently found libre myself, didn't want to shell out 100+ bucks for MS Office in the future (probably coulda gotten it free through school, but don't want to get used to something I'll have to pay for on a personal machine). Pretty impressed, didn't expect a completely free suit would be so good...not with MS having the balls to charge 100+ dollars for their suit anyway.

It would be great if you update this video since LibreOffice 7.1 has new updates on MSOffice import/export compatibility, it is amazing!! Companies still pay for MSOffice because most IT managers don´t even bother to check on LibreOffice since it´s not they money, it´s companies money...

In all fair and honestly the average home user even intermediate user for business, will get 99% the same results from using LibreOffice than what they would in Microsoft Office. I know this video is a few years old now, but you can adjust the toolbar to be similar to the ribbon of Microsoft Office Word etc... and even install icons to make it pretty much like Word... without the cost.

I use to use Microsoft Office, primarily Word and Excel, and since moving to LibreOffice it's not only been smooth sailing over to it, but it does everything I need and best of all it's free.

Great video thanks. Considering that I only need something like Excel for my accounts - I'm going to install Libre Office 😃 x

I don't like to admit it, but fact is LibreOffice simply can't compete with MS Office. I've used LibreOffice for quite a while and yes, if you only have LibreOffice, it works fine. But if you switch to MS Office after a while, you notice how much you've been stuck in the past. Maybe if LibreOffice gets a huge layout update and a cooperation functionality I'll give it a chance again.

I did try out the earliest open office variants long ago and at said times they were rather hokey. Not something something I could suggest compared to Microsoft Products.

But I tried this last year Microsoft Office again, a years 365 license, and I found that LibreOffice really does all I need. And that yes Microsoft offers a few more things but I don't use those. Hence the value in the 10% it might do more/better [depending how you look at it] means nothing to me. And LibreOffice makes more sense.

I also like how LibreOffice got styles working right earlier then Microsoft did. It just works.. yes it doesn't looks as shiny and "super modern kawai" but it works.

The major advantage that LibreOffice has is it compliance the Open Document Standard.

With M$ you will always be held captive perpetually by their unique proprietary formats.

And with each new version of M$ Office and thus be forced
to pay for continual upgrades.

So paying for a One-time fee for M$ Office is some what deceptive.

However, LibreOffice will always comply with the Open Document Standard as some of the
other free Office Suites.

2 reasons businesses will still use MS Office instead of Libre Office:

-Most software is programmed against MS Office and will not work with Libre Office.

-MS Outlook is just miles ahead of any mail/calendar/contacts client available.

Competing Office Suites should focus on the above if they ever want to replace MS Office.

I updated from Word 2002 to Word 2013 and pretty much hated Ribbons and Backstage to handle documents. LibreOffice is great with a much more familiar interface. I always wind up going back to Word though, because its Smart Cut and Space and the way it adjusts blank spaces when moving text is far superior.

Libre office not only uses less resources, also have OpenCL inplemented in Calc, I personally don't like the ribbon interface of Microsoft Office, the location of items changes all the time, it´s not functional in my opinion. Libre Office is also free, and we can be sure the format will be readed in future versions for our old files, Microsoft is changing the Office file format in every new version so people have to buy the new version all the time.
