Which of your guitar heroes would you love to meet? What would you say to them?

Words can't even describe how wise Carlos is.

“You’re always praying, and you’re always cursing, and you’re always making love. It ain’t do-re-mi-fa-so-la-to-do”

One of the best guitar lessons, thanks CS

If you don't play, you'll never get what he's saying. It's all about feel. Feeling the music your playing with and what you want to get across to people. Technique is important. Its like learning to read and write. Once you get to a certain point, you don't have to do writing exercises anymore, you just write what you want. Once you understand your vocab and structure on guitar, you just play. Let it out.

Last time I was this early, Tyler was still giving out promo codes

At this age I think Santana could steal your girlfriend

I don’t think you understand what Carlos meant, he is at another level all together. He is talking about feeling and passion. Get in touch with your self, prayer, meditation, finding your inner light and letting that vibration come through your instrument.

“The way to practice is to take a deep breath, and get out of the way.”

This is honestly the most valuable advice in the entire video. Take a moment to process everything that’s holding you back, let it go, and just work on your craft.

Wow! What a treat. My first concert was Santana I had been playing guitar for over a year and when I saw his huge band with percussion and horns and multiple singers and everyone was so in sync and the dancers were moving perfectly with it all and I saw Carlos standing there with his eyes closed playing with all he had and every word on his mic was kindness I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life.
Fuckin’ awesome. I’d love to play with him some day and just zone out in that magic.

He is one of the greats that really tapped into his soul when he played..

You play from the heart. Your feelings and your soul play the guitar, or drums, or bass, or keyboards. It's not your hands. It's not technique. It's not style. It's the lifeforce you put into your playing. Over the past 40+ years of being a guitarist on-stage and off, I've seen a lot of guitar players just regurgitate. Nowhere in their playing is who they are. You have to put your SELF in your playing. Carlos is 100% on the money with that! When you put 100% of yourself in your playing, people take notice!

To have played guitar that long and still think spiritually and philosophically about it like Carlos does is incredible. It's so easy to get bogged down in the scales and notes, etc but Carlos elevates all that to a higher dimension of life. He is a beautiful soul.

What I love about this is seeing your nervousness Tyler while interviewing Carlos...reason being, or shows that every single one of us have those folks that we look up to & are memorized by their talent, knowledge, & their views of music as a whole. Tyler, I love this cause it was raw & real

Santana is so down to earth…but, in an ethereal way…open and honest…he lets his music speak in the same way…but apparently with the fifth note as magical as the secret chord that David played! You interviewed him well! 😎👍
