Jeep YJ Doors Explained.

This information is JUST for Jeep Wranglers from 1987-1995 (YJs). It helps explain the issue between doors made for factory soft tops and doors made for hard tops.

So if you're a bit confused as to why some YJ doors have a square back corner, and some have a rounded back corner, this 2 minute video can help.

If I already have a soft top with the corner window uppers can I convert it to fit the rounded hard doors?

I don't know anyone who makes locks for a YJ factory half door.

I know on my old CJ, I prefer not to have locks, since it's so easy to get into anyway. But we put locks on all our doors now, in part to help keep anyone from stealing the doors.

To run soft uppers, you need to run slightly modified TJ uppers. Search on-line, you will find all the info you need to make them work.

Hey can you explain to me why my 1989 yj has no locks? And can you tell me how to install locks on them and what I would need? They are factory half steel doors, thanks

It's a Bestop two piece. We don't sell them anymore.

bulldog makes secure half door fiberglass uppers, so there is relevance to knowing how to put locks on half door bottoms

Not -precisely- correct. Yes, you can modify TJ uppers, and some people do. But you can get soft uppers designed specifically for a YJ - you just need to make sure you get the proper ones.
