TEXTILE SECTOR: Value chain challenges

A recent study on development of Uganda's textile industry, recommends the establishment of a strong value chain, from cotton production, processing and value addition into garments, in what could grow export earnings worth at least $650 Million dollars.
In this quest, Wilson Wamakuyu, the deputy secretary general of Afri-Cooperative Society, whose joint venture with the African Textile Mills in Mbale collapsed 13 years ago, says a new strategy is needed to resolve a legal impasse over ownership and operation of the factory.
