This is a very clear and helpful video. I am the daughter of a 97 year old in assisted living. The caregivers (who are not PT or OT) do not seem familiar with these tools. So I am trying to fill in that gap. Your video would be even more helpful if it showed your patient walking and how you could stabilize him by hanging on to the gait belt. We need to see these tools not just put onto and off of the patient but IN USE. Thanks so much! Nancy in Maryland

SHE SAYS SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT TO TAKE NOTE OF....

A GAIT BELT IS NOT USED TO HELP YOU LIFT A PATIENT!
It may feel like it is, because you will ha e a better grip. But do not use a gait belt with that in mind...

YOU CAN EASILY HURT YOURSELF IF PATIENT LOSES BALANCE, I PERSONALLY THREW MY BACK OUT, MAKING SURE THAT MY PATIENT DID NOT FALL WHEN THEY LOST BALANCE SUDDENLY.

I PROTECTED THEM, BUT AT THE COST OF MY OWN INJURY.

This was one of the best gait belt videos on YouTube imo.

This will be very helpful for a friend who needs to have a way to get his dad out of a recliner and onto his walker every night. He also needs to know how to assist with lifting him as he isn't able to lift himself out of the recliner. At least he will have something to hold onto now. Excellent Videos for using gait belt!! Thank you SO MUCH... I just have one question please. My Mom (who is 87) fell and has a compression fracture in her lower back. In that case, would it be best to put it on higher up? (like your other video shows) across her chest area and/or under the arm pits. YES??

Thank you for you videos. They are really great! Can you make one on assisting the elderly up and down stairs. My dad uses walking sticks for balance and needs just a little assistance lifting his weight as he goes up. I have been assisting him by holding has arm under his arm pit but dont want to hurt him. Im not sure a gait belt is appropriate for slight lifting. Also a lot of other videos show being in front of the person going backwards down the stairs. This seems like a huge fall risk. Being on his side going down forward seems safer. Any advice? Thanks
