The Complete Disassembly Starts - Classic Jaguar Full Restoration Project

With the engine removed now the complete disassembly starts of my classic Jaguar full restoration project. The goal is for it to be a rolling shell that can be moved down to my future metal working workshop. It also needs to be as light as possible since I will have to push it all the way there. The complete disassembly starts in the video and will continue in the next one.

Just found your S-type project videos last night. I have a 1965 3.8S that I purchased last year. The car has been mostly restored to a high level by a previous owner, but still has lots of little details that need fixing. Really enjoying watching your progress.

Adam, I think the door hinge screws are Pozidrive heads. They look like Phillips head screws but if you look closely they have an extra set of shallow groves between the large ones. The profile of the large groves is slightly different too. They are found on most British cars in various sizes and are used quite often on trim screws. You can find the correct drivers and bits on Amazon, the door screws look to be #4 size. If you do a search for Pozidrive you can see the difference between it and the Phillips head.

You mentioned considering replacing the back doors... I think I remember someone telling me how they are made to fit, using tin, and no two mark 2 doors are the same. Something to look into before you scrap them ☺

Hi Adam
I consider both yourself and Michael Owen as the best old jag presenters on you tube and jagvette aswell.

Hi Adam, the dashboard comes out in 3 separate pieces. Remove the top wood first. The steering column and steering will all still be in place. Great to see your Project. I am doing a '67 3.8 S-Type manual in the UK that I stripped down a long time ago!

Whatever you want to do it Adam. If it takes two years of videos, we're with you.
You have a great little channel.

Yes, detailed long term series is my vote.

Hi Adam. Just a post script to your answer. If you replace the door seals you have to undrill the pop rivets holding the metal strip before removing the seal . You cannot paint the car with the seals in place regardless of whether the doors are on or not . Then you have to fit the seals before you fit the doors. Like l 've already mentioned you will lose the will to live! I actually love the Opalescent Golden Sand, but if your painting the car yourselve then a solid colour is more practical. My choice would be Indigo Blue. With the Chrome wires and thin white walls the 'S" type looks superb. Which would tone in with the Red interior as well . We used to look after one in that spec' in the late '60's. Gorgeous !

I have just bought a 1965 S type in a slightly worse condition than yours (more rust) so following your videos will be essential.
I am going to do mine in a completely different way but the end result should hopefully be similar.
I live in Adelaide South Australia where Jags are super rare so it would be great if you include your source for parts and cost of.
By the way your videos are EXCELLENT !!!! Keep them coming.

Yes, you've got the right idea to do it in detail over a long period. Very enjoyable and such a lovely car

This will be super.
Try a manual impact on the lower hinge screws. A couple taps with the hammer works surprisingly well.

Adam, I know that feeling of heavy jaguar doors.
Great to see the project continue, Love any bits of information or tricks you use to work on the restoration.
Thanks

Hi Adam, do a detail restoration. I have a 1956 MK1 I am doing a full restoration. I would be happy to see your work. Thx John

I'm looking forward to seeing the restoration. Something that I have done with an engine that I have removed, is to get an old car tire that is off of the rim, and then lay it flat, and put the engine on the tire. It balances fairly well, and take the strain off of sitting on the oil pan.

I for one would like to see the full detailed restoration of this car. It was for this reason why I subscribed. Can't wait to see more! Cheers
