For everybody's knowledge there are lots of different locks. You have bad luck if your fan has the metal lock (it's like a piston ring for the gear heads out there). You need precision tools to undo the lock, let alone assembling it back. I've been dealing with these fans from centrifugal blowers, PC fans to industrial grade ones (5V, 9V, 12V, 24 DC, to 110 and 220 V AC).

Or you can simply pull the fan out in case it's a common sleeve bearing/ fdb fan
