New 2020 Volkswagen Golf - the king of the hatchbacks is back!

This is the all-new Volkswagen Golf. As with the model it replaces, the eighth-generation version of the brand’s iconic hatch will straddle the family car line between upmarket rivals like the BMW 1 Series and the mainstream competition from the Ford Focus. Sales are due to begin in February 2020, with the first customers taking delivery in April.

Is it me or would the front of a scirocco look exactly like that if it was still in production.

That color customization is so old that it reminds me on 2006 when phones got theme creator feature

Oh my lord what have they done in the interior? No actual buttons, anywhere besides the steering wheel? Not even a dial for the climate? A touch sensitive slider, really? And I know that car journalists will praise/ignore it despite ragging on Peugeot for doing the same

It is ok, simply a golf. I hate only one thing about the exterior - the fake exhausts. Why?!

Just can’t get my head around the old bmw 5 series inspired dame Edna headlamp extension / spectacles - really spoils it... and yes it just looks like a poor facelift externally

I have a Golf mkIV and the best thing about it is buttons! I can change AC, recycle, direction of air, FM stations, etc., without ever taking my eyes off the road.

This might be the last of the line for the Golf, as there likely won’t be a ninth-generation. As by that time most new cars will be electric and VW has a separate line of models for that 🤔

No mention of transmission, wonder if VW continue with DSG?

We will always tend to the previous generation more than the current. Well, since the Mk5.

It's too digital and techy...which means it looks cheap. Golf should be...full of heritage and slightly conservative. The exterior is fine...the interior is awful. Touchscreen obsession means over complicated matters. Why not buttons for every single mandatory function...like AC. And the screen will get filthy dirty and oily with fingerprints in no time at all. Coming from a Golf owner here.

Looks like the GTE has lost its ‘GTI’ style look

Two things I don't like about this car, the volume/heating buttons are now sliders. Nope, don't like that. The bonnet hydraulic arms are gone in favor of a skinny metal rod like some sub compact car. Apart from that, yep it's much prettier than my Mk7 and I'm excited to test drive one next year. This Lime Yellow though? Dunno bout that. The grey on stage looked amazing.

2.0ltr tdi manual, my 2018 is 150 bhp, i like it the new one is 115 bhp, no more passing 1.0 ltr polo or fiat punto
then, no buttons less power inside looks cheap, lost driver side pull down draw, center slide cover, and centre draw
glove box lock, manual override on rear view anti dazel mirror def no more golfs for me
