Alvarez just watched Cole Palmer light it up after not wanting to play second fiddle to Foden, DeBruyne etc. Alvarez is a world champion at a crucial phase in his career. This move is less about ego and more about ambition.

Alvarez played in 54 matches and nearly 3, 500 minutes last season. He most certainly would have played a significant number of minutes this season for City. He just no longer wanted to be the first choice back-up to Haaland, De Bruyne, and Foden. Bigger picture, the move works well for both sides. City bought Alvarez for 14 million only two years ago and are now selling him for a massive profit at 95 million. And now Alvarez gets to be the main man under Simeone in Madrid at a very good club. Great deal for everyone involved.

If anybody followed atleti when simeone took over them from catania...atleti was a beast when he was playing with Falcao and diego costa...I believe he is trying to recreate the same formula with Julian Alvarez and sorloth...this team might be scary this season...Btw Im a Sevilla fan and I hate that atleti is getting stronger :p

Alvarez has won every trophy. He deserves to be the main guy not some back up

The infamous world class striker for atletico run continues... Forlan, torres, aguero, villa, costa, falcao, suarez, griezmann if you count him as one and now alvarez.

Pep’s style is to run players till they have nothing left in the tank. Continuity is critical to him. Thats why Alvarez leaving irritates him.

With savio, Bobb, MacAtee, O'reilly, Debryn, Foden and Halland in the first team game time crisis was going to be worse for Alva this season

From the perspective of the Argentine team he will also be playing with his team mates wich should be good for the squad.

95mil euros "total package"...dont make it seem like city flipped a toaster for almost 100mil euros😮‍💨...this guys has amazing talent and I personally rate him higher than Halland and hes way more versatile.

A lot of y’all are saying he had a lot of minutes but he never did start for big important matchs. Unless haaland was injured 😂. So good for him not wanting to be second choice

Kudos to Alvarez and Pep, got the lad some game time, but not too much to risk serious injury… Alvarez performed in most every situation he was put in at city and gained a ton of experience while playing at the top level. Strategic sale of a hungry and promising baller. I think he is going to do great things at Athletico🎉

I don’t think it’s time to leave yet, I’m not a City fan but this team has experience and talent from both coaches and players which you get to learn from. Staying will help him prove himself as a top player. He needs to continue personal achievements to show his true talent, beyond team successes titles, which mostly depend on a group of skilled players. I don’t think atlético is the right move just to get minutes. He has only been in a European club for only a year and it’s City.

ALE MORENO, the football genius, who never even played in Europe ever in his career. Basically an average MLS Player judging worldclass Managers and players in ESPN FC.
