Angry crowds have thrown mud and other projectiles towards Spain's King Felipe VI in Paiporta, Valencia, as the search for people missing in the country's flood-hit areas continued.

On Saturday, the Spanish prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced that thousands of troops would be deployed to help response efforts. The death toll from the floods has risen to more than 210

Not surprising that the Guardian only tells part of the story- the king was with the prime minister who fled when the crowd became unruly.

I have questioned the lack of government response from day one. The army is the best unit to coordinate the recovery in these types of situations

And the president of Spain and the president of the Valencian Community escaped and left the kings alone in front of the crowd.

The Guardian should report on the entire event. The main ire of the crowd was directed towards the prime minister Pedro Sanchez, who fled the scene while sticks were thrown at him and people attacked his car. The king was able to stay because he was not the main object of hatred of the crowd as he is mainly a figurehead. Political angling between the national government led by the PSOE and the regional government led by the PP has led to a devasting delay the in arrival of military aid and fire departments from other regions, and the chants of the crowd clearly state that their beef is with Sanchez. It should also be noted the the huge convoy of SUVs for the visit was a magnificent display of political entitlement, as they arrived empty-handed when said vehicles should have also been filled to the brim with material aid during the visit. On a final note, the visit of the heads of state also blocked the arrival of aid for several hours due the security reasons.
