A fire early Saturday destroyed the rooftop and most of the interior of a Catholic church in California that was undergoing renovation to mark its upcoming 250th anniversary celebration. Fire alarms at the San Gabriel Mission rang around 4 a.m., and when firefighters arrived they saw smoke rising from the wooden rooftop in one corner of the historic structure, San Gabriel Fire Capt. Paul Negrete said. He said firefighters entered the church and tried to beat back the flames, but they had to retreat when roofing and other structural materials began to fall, Negrete said.

They tear down Serra's statue in Capitol Park and now this? You don't think there's a pattern here? Coincidence?

Californians, this is a bad sign for the state of California. Leave with your families while you have a chance. This is a signal that there is more to come.

Since Father Serra was involved with this church, it's pretty easy to figure out what happened here.
Can you spell A-R-S-O-N ?

+kcratv *Thanks for passing the incident notice from south State.* The _Misión del Santo Príncipe el Arcángel San Gabriel de Los Temblores_ was established 8 September 1771 by the _Ordo Fratrum Minorum_ RCC with the assent of then-King Carlos Sebastián (III. of Spain and V. of Naples and Sicily). The wooden sanctuary with adobe outer wall was appointed similarly to parish-level sanctuaries in Spain and Portugal, with combustibles contributing to the fire damage of 11 July 2020.
